Tunnel Face Mapping

Activities include:

  • Reviewing the tunnel design manual and drawings
  • Reviewing the rock mass rating or other method of rock classification to be used on the site
  • Preparing a template for tunnel mapping if not provided yet
  • Inspecting ground conditions before and after tunneling activities to characterize ground conditions
  • Measuring the dip and dip direction of major and minor structures
  • Classifying ground conditions and suitable ground support system
  • Taking photographs of the tunnel surface and recording them together with the visual inspection results
  • Preparing a tunnel mapping report
