Soil & Rock Mapping as Box Cut or Portal Excavation Progresses
- Inspect the ground conditions during excavation and log the soil or rock revealed after the excavation
- Soil mapping is carried out by visually logging the soil and rock, describe them in accordance with the AS1289 to provide information on their strengths, weathering, moisture condition, consistency/relative density, colour, structural geology, i.e. joints, beddings, infill and other rock features
- analyze and assess the ground condition and the proposed temporary supports prepared or designed for the particular soil section being excavated
