As one of Australia’s most significant pieces of new infrastructure, the Western Sydney Airport development required ground investigation at a scale to match, comprehensive coverage across the airport precinct to inform planning, design and construction as the site was built from the ground up.
Geotesta’s investigations combined drilling and sampling, geological logging, laboratory testing and groundwater monitoring to characterise subsurface conditions and identify geotechnical constraints across the broader precinct, with findings captured in geotechnical reports that supported design teams working across multiple facilities and packages simultaneously. Coordinating that volume of investigation data across a greenfield site of this size called for close, ongoing collaboration with the wider project team.
The result was timely, reliable ground information that helped the project identify and manage site-specific risks early, supporting confident decision-making as construction of Sydney’s new international gateway progressed.
