The West Gate Tunnel is one of Victoria’s largest transport infrastructure undertakings, designed to ease congestion and improve connectivity for Melbourne’s growing western suburbs. Geotesta was engaged to provide geotechnical and geological services across the project’s extensive planning, investigation and construction phases.
Field work included drilling and sampling, geological logging, groundwater observations and laboratory testing to characterise subsurface conditions and flag ground-related risks early, with findings distilled into geotechnical reports that fed directly into design and construction decisions. The project’s scale and tight programme meant turnaround mattered as much as accuracy, Geotesta worked closely with the broader project team to keep reliable ground information moving at the pace construction needed.
That combination of technical rigour and responsiveness helped the project team manage geotechnical risk through a demanding schedule and progress one of Melbourne’s most significant infrastructure projects with confidence.
