When the EPA issued a Section 246 notice under the Environment Protection Act 2017 flagging concerns over an underground petroleum storage system (UPSS) at this Mentone site, the owners needed a fast, defensible response. Geotesta was engaged to investigate and delineate potential contamination and prepare the technical basis for the EPA’s required Entry Report.
A Detailed Site Investigation (DSI) confirmed the location of the known underground storage tanks (USTs) and uncovered additional tanks the owners hadn’t known were there. Following the DSI’s recommendation, Geotesta coordinated with a remediation contractor to decommission and remove the USTs, then validated the resulting excavations to confirm contamination had been removed as far as practicable, all while working closely with the site tenant to minimise disruption to their operations and limit any rent claims against the owners.
The EPA accepted the remediation outcome and closed its case file, allowing the site to continue operating under its existing use.
