Geotechnical Inspection and Supervision
An independent site monitoring system to allow continuous progress on groundworks
Experienced oversight of critical works
Investigation plans and reports provide an indication of anticipated ground conditions; however, actual conditions must be verified during construction. Geotesta’s field inspectors assess compaction standards, exposed soil and rock, excavation levels, foundation conditions and earthworks in accordance with the agreed project scope.
Where actual site conditions differ from those anticipated, Geotesta can document the variations and refer them to the appropriate engineer for assessment. This allows the findings to be considered before further work proceeds or affected areas are completed and become inaccessible.
Inspection activities
Excavation inspection
Exposed soil and rock conditions will be assessed against available investigation data, relevant design assumptions and the requirements set out in the construction documentation.
Foundation inspection
Founding levels and exposed materials can be inspected before concrete is placed to identify any unacceptable, damaged or unexpected ground conditions.
Earthworks supervision
Geotesta supervises fill placement, compaction and stockpile sampling under Level 1 or Level 2 earthworks supervision, as required by the project specification.
Field testing
In situ testing, including Dynamic Cone Penetrometer, nuclear density and proof roll testing, provides immediate evidence of compaction, strength and ground performance while on site.
Construction records
All construction information including observation notes, test results and other relevant details will be recorded to provide a permanent record of the inspection activities.
Technical escalation
Any unexpected findings identified during a site visit can be communicated immediately to the project engineer for assessment. This allows appropriate alternatives or corrective actions to be considered before work resumes.
Practical oversight supported by comprehensive integrated technical capabilities
Frequently Asked Questions
A geotechnical inspection may be required during excavation, foundation, earthworks or piling activities, particularly where engineering documentation identifies hold points or requires soil conditions to be verified before subsequent work proceeds.
No. In accordance with the agreed scope of work and schedule, Geotesta provides technical inspection, testing and observation services. Responsibility for managing the construction process, including sequencing, site coordination, health and safety, and the performance of contractors, remains with the principal contractor or relevant project representative.
Geotesta personnel will record their observations of soil conditions and notify the appropriate project representative or engineer for further assessment and direction.
Standard working-hour attendance requirements will be discussed during the scoping process. Where critical works or high-cost plant require immediate support, Geotesta can arrange extended-hours attendance to suit the construction program.
Please provide the site location, construction program, relevant drawings and investigation reports, along with details of the inspection requirements and any hold points identified in the engineering documentation. Please also include the contact information for the responsible site representative.
